The concept, known as ‘the chatty pianist’ in English, is a comedic take on the “Lecture-Concert” style of performance. The pianist talk to the audience through a screen and play at the same time, while an ensemble of Spolin style theatre actors accompany him on the stage, reenacting the stories he is telling live.
The challenge for this design project was to communicate all the complex information, not only the two ensemble performances joining, but also the composers and writers whose work was the subject of this particular event- Ludwig van Beethoven and William Shakespeare, while also keeping the design exciting enough to appeal to children. Delivering all this information in a family-friendly and informative illustration, this design is able to both entice parents to take their children to the performance, and excite children to see an educational show.
