Cécile McLorin Salvant, born on August 28, 1989, is an American jazz vocalist renowned for her exceptional talent. She gained widespread recognition when she won the first prize in the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Competition in 2010. Following this victory, she promptly released her debut album, titled “Cécile.”
In 2013, Salvant released her second album, “WomanChild,” under the Mack Avenue Records label. This album earned her a Grammy Award nomination for Best Jazz Vocal Album in 2014. Her remarkable achievements continued as she clinched four categories in the 2014 DownBeat Critics Poll: Jazz Album of the Year, Female Vocalist, Rising Star–Jazz Artist, and Rising Star–Female Vocalist.
Her third album, “For One to Love,” was released on September 5, 2015, to critical acclaim from esteemed publications such as The New York Times, The Guardian, and Los Angeles Times. This album further solidified her status in the jazz world, earning her the prestigious Grammy Award for Best Jazz Vocal Album in 2016.
