All three artists are master musicians and recognized for their individual abilities, as well as pushing musical boundaries and exploring new cultures. Sosa is a Cuban composer, arranger, pianist and percussionist. Paolo Fresu is an Italian composer, arranger, jazz trumpet and flugelhorn player. Trilok Gurtu is an Indian percussionist and composer. The trio celebrates three unique and distinctive voices that combine traditional and progressive musical elements from India, Italy and Cuba.
We responded to this project by coming up with an iconic solution. The cut-outs of the hands, eyes, nose and lip combine to create a single figure, mimicking how these three different characters produce one single sound. Drawing a parallel between the use of hands, mouths and breaths in their performance, this design celebrates the multi-layered, multicultural essence of the trio’s performance.
