Exploring the Psychedelic Soul of Gaye Su Akyol: Poster Design Inspired by an Icon
At I Mean It Creative, every poster we design seeks to tell a story. Designing for Gaye Su Akyol, the celebrated Turkish singer, was an opportunity to delve into the extraordinary and create visuals that reflect her vibrant persona and unique artistry. Recognized with the Best Artist Award at Songlines Music Awards 2019, Gaye Su Akyol is not only a global music sensation but also a cultural icon celebrated for her bold individuality, eclectic costumes, and commitment to pushing boundaries.

The Essence of Gaye Su Akyol in Visuals

Gaye Su Akyol’s performances are as much a feast for the eyes as they are for the ears. Her dramatic costumes, which blend traditional Turkish motifs with futuristic elements, inspire an otherworldly aesthetic. This fusion became the foundation for our poster designs, where we explored psychedelic backdrops infused with the spirit of Turkish ebru art—the traditional art of marbling that creates flowing, hypnotic patterns.

The swirling colors and intricate textures of ebru served as a metaphor for Akyol’s music—ever-shifting and deeply immersive. These backgrounds, paired with her striking imagery, create a surreal stage where tradition meets rebellion.

A Voice Beyond the Music

Gaye Su Akyol’s significance extends beyond her music. As an advocate and important figure for the LGBTQI+ community, she has graced the cover of Gzone Magazine and appeared in the 2020 trans biographical documentary İris by Volkan Güleryüz. Her commitment to inclusivity and representation adds another dimension to her art, one that resonates deeply with fans across diverse communities.

Merging Sound and Vision

Our poster designs aimed to capture the essence of her persona: vibrant, fearless, and transcendent. Drawing on her music’s psychedelic tones, we crafted visuals that invite audiences to step into her kaleidoscopic world, where culture, identity, and artistry blend seamlessly.

At I Mean It Creative, it’s a privilege to amplify voices like Gaye Su Akyol’s through design—where art meets advocacy, and every detail tells a story worth remembering.
